CORK | DUBLIN | 1992 - TBC |
OVERVIEW Nine Wassies From Bainne was an avant garde rock band based in Dublin. In fact, the band's sound could be described as post rock, however, the 9 Wassies were around long before that phrase was coined. So the band might, in fact, have been Ireland's first 'pre-post-rock' band. Irrespective of how the band's sound was classified, there are a few more certain facts. The group was formed in Dublin towards the end of 1992 by Giordai O'Laoghaire. Giordai had been a stalwart of the Irish music scene and, in particular, the Cork scene for many years having played with bands such as Nun Attax, Microdisney and Soon. He gradually recruited like-Minded individuals like Enda Doyle on bass guitar an drummer Peter O'Kennedy [ex-The Golden Horde]. In 1994, Enda was replaced by Eddie Lee [ex-Those Nervous Animals]. In 1996, the played a gig in Mountjoy Prison. The line up for that gig was Giordai on guitar, Peter on drums and Michael Mullen on bass guitar. It's not known if Michael was a permanent member of the group. That year also saw David Murray joining the band on vocals. The band was mostly known as a live outfit. However, in 1997 the band entered the studio with Aidan Foley to record a first album. That album, 'Ciddy Hall', was released in 1998. Since then, there has been little activity from the group. Eddie performs with a number of groups including NoCrows and Anything Goes. 1992 - Band formed 1994 - Eddie Lee replaced Enda Doyle 1996 - Band played a gig in Mountjoy Prison.
