CORK | SWEDEN | 1999 - 2005 |
OVERVIEW The Mighty Quark was the second musical collaboration between Mark O'Sullivan and Walter Bäcklin. THey had previously worked together as Boolaboss. Mark is, perhaps, better known from his time in his native Cork where he performed with No Sangoma and The Caroline Shout. In 1994, Mark moved to Sweden where he became immersed in the local techno and house scene. His first output on his Swedish sejourn was the work he produced with Walter as Boolaboss. Next up for the pair was The Mighty Quark which started in about 1999. Over the next 6 years, the pair released a pair of albums - 'Ian Hendrick's Disco' [1999] and 'Silverdale' [2002]. The title of the first of these is surely a doff of the hat to Mark's former band mate, Ian Hendrick who played with The Caroline Shout, The band also released a string of singles including 'Smokescreen' [1999], 'Late' [2003] and 'Disco Blood' [2005]. They also collaborated on a couple of single releases. In 2000, The Mighty Quark released 'Keep That Money' as a split 12" single with Takayuki Shiraishi. Takayuki contributed 'Steel Blue'. In the same year, the band contributed 'Ian Hendrick's Disco' to the 'Southern Fried' compilation which was a celebration of Cork artist. The band's final release was the 'Zoo 67' single which was a collaboration with Huggotron. By this time, Mark was already working with Jesper Dahlbäck as DK7 and with Jesper's cousin John Dahlbäck as part of Mark & John. 1999 - Release of 'Theme From Ian Hendrick's Disco / Smokescreen' single - Release of 'Smokescreen' single - Release of 'Ian Hendrick's Disco' album - Release of 'Quiet Life / 3 Way Dub' single 2000 - The Mighty Quark release 'Keep That Money' as a split 12" single with Takayuki Shiraishi who contributes the track 'Steel Blue' - The Mighty Quark contribute the track 'Ian Hendrick's Disco' to the 'Southern Fried' Compilation 2002 - Release of 'Silverdale' album 2003 - Release of 'Late' single - Release of 'Kangaroo #1' single 2005 - Release of 'Disco Blood' single - Release of 'Zoo 67' single in collaboration with Huggotron |
