OVERVIEW

The D11 Runners was a short-lived soul-funk pop band. The group from Finglas was formed around 1990 and featured amongst its line up Joe Fitzgerald [Vocals], Ken McCluskey [Guitar] and George Fitzgerald [Saxophone]. The group has often been compared to the fictional group The Commitments. As it turns out, guitarist McCluskey played the role of guitarist in the film.

The band self-released a debut single entitled 'I Surrender' in 1990. This was followed by the release of 'Yeah Yeah' the same year which climbed to No 13 in the Irish Charts and was named 'Single Of The Year' in Hot Press. The band was building a lot of momentum and TV slots and major gigs followed.

In 1991, the band released a third single, 'People Let's Dance' which entered the Irish Top 10. The band next made an assault on the UK market. They signed up with Louis Walsh and started to the tour the country extensively. The band was attracting an amount of record label interest, however, circumstances meant that a deal never materialised.

The band eventually split around 1993/94. Joe Fitzgerald went on to pursue a solo career as Joseph.
