CORK | 1986 - 1989 |
OVERVIEW The Chapterhouse was a mid to late 1980s synth -pop band based in Cork. The band was formed in 1986 after the demise of two earlier projects, Real Mayonnaize and Porcelyn Tears. The group's line up included Ann Redmond [Vocals], Dave Sullvan [aka Skully] [Keyboards] and Paul Moore [Drums]. The Chapterhouse didn't feature a guitarist which was somewhat unusual for the time. The band recorded a number of demo tapes. One of these was recorded at Elm treet Studios and produced by Denis Herlihy. The trio also went on to record a number of Fanning Sessions at Radio 2. In June 1986, the band played a showcase gig at Sir Henry's in Cork. While there was a lot of A&R interest, this did not result in a full record deal. In November of that year, the band won 'Demo Of The Year' through Radio 2. The prize included a single deal. That single was recorded in 1987 and produced by Jim Lockhart. The single, 'Scorch Avenue' was released in March 1987 and was backed by 'Pressure (Right Now)'. The band recorded several other racks during its career, however, there are no other known releases. Other titles from the band included 'Baywaters And Mrs. Thompson', 'Beside You', 'Perfect Crime', 'Possessed', 'Strings To The Light', 'Timechange' and 'What You Mean To Me'. The band continued to seek a record deal, however, this never materialised. Eventually, the group disbanded in 1989. Dave (Skully) went on to significant success with Métisse and as Skully. 1986 - Band formed [February] - Band play showcase gig in Sir Henry's, Cork [June] 1987 - Release of 'Scorch Avenue' single [March] 1989 - Band split |
