CORK | 2013 - 2014/5 |
OVERVIEW The Careers was a Cork-based garage rock band. The group came together in about 2012 with a line up of Luke O'Neill [Vocals & Guitar], Eoin Conway [Piano & Electric Organ], James Moone [Bass Guitar] and Fergal Hennessy [Drums]. Initially they traded under the name. They starting playing when they were in transition year in Ashton School. The band initially went by the name The Breaks and then The Subterraneans before becoming The Careers in the Summer of 2013. A month later, the group released its debut EP, 'Atomic Cosmosaurus'. The EP featured six tracks in total including 'All The All The Whiles', 'Devil In The Detail' and 'Won't Go Far'. The EP was well received and drew comparisons with the likes of The Strokes. As the EP was being released, the band was starting its Leaving Cert year in school. Once the exams were behind them, the band hit the festival circuit playing the likes of the Body & Soul and Electric Picnic Festivals. In November 2014, the band performed at the Jagermeister Fresser Sessions at Crane Lane alongside Ham Sandwich, The Minutes and Vann Music. Sometime after this, The Careers' career came to an end. In the Summer of 2015, Luke launched a new project, Damsel. Damsel is primarily a vehicle for Luke's own material, however, in a live context it's a five-piece band including his band-mates from The Careers along with Graham Cooney. 2013 - Band formed after The Subterraneans changed its name to The Careers [August] - Release of 'Atomic Cosmosaurus' EP [23 September] 2014 - The Careers perform at the Body & Soul Festival in Ballinlough Castle, Co.
