OVERVIEW Hilary Woods is a singer-songwriter from Dublin. She grew up in a musical household where her brother Geoff was a member of bands such as Picturehouse and Pugwash. While still at school, she joined fledgling band JJ72 as their bass guitarist, an instrument she had only recently learned. The band became indie darlings with the release of their self-titled debut album. That record went on to sell over half a million copies. In March 2003, Hilary left the group. It was a full ten years before Hilary returned to the music scene. This time around, she traded as The River Cry. In February 2013, she released an album of the same name on Betrothed Records. A year later, Hilary released a first EP under her own name. 'Night' was released on 18 September 2014. Featuring a total of 4 tracks, the EP showcases Hilary's sound. There are lots of words which can be used to decribe the atmosphere - from sparse and minimalist to layered and delicate. Whatever way you wish to describe the soundscape, it serves as a foil for Hiary's beautiful, dreamlike vocals - a voice which has been compared to the likes of Julee Cruise. In 2016, she released her second EP 'Heartbox' as a 7" Single. She unveiled her debut album, 'Colt' in June 2018. 2014 - Release of 'Night' EP [18 September] 2016 - Release of 'Heartbox' EP [18 July] 2018 - Release of 'Colt' album [08 June] 2019 - Hilary performs at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, Netherlands [16 - 19 January] |
