DUBLIN 2003 -
OVERVIEW
The Urges is a Dublin-based band which is inspired by 60s garage and psychedelic rock. Formed in 2003, the early lineup featured Jim Walters [Vocals], Glenn Lee Flynn [Guitar], Gary Clarke [Rhythm Guitar], Ross McGee [Bass Guitar] and Andrew Sweeney [Drums]. Ken Mooney replaced Andrew on drums with Peter Smith taking over guitar duties from Glen Lee Flynn

The band quickly built up a strong following on the local scene which earned them a slot on the New Band Stage at the 2004 Oxegen Festival. The band then headed into the studio with Pete Holidai [The Radiators From Space]. The results of these sessions was the band's debut single '(Around &) Around Again'. Upon its release in May 2005, the single rose to No. 20 in the Irish Charts. Later that year, the single's B-Side, 'Jenny Jenny' was included on the 'Gloria ::: International Glam Rock Club'.

The band then set about recording its debut album. This proved to be challenging time for the band with the original recording sessions being canned. However, subsequent sessions with Jorge Explosion proved more fruitful. The band's debut LP, 'Psych Ward' was finally released in October 2007. The album was re-issued the following year featuring 'Jenny Jenny' as an additional track. 2008 also saw the band release 'The Urges Theme' as a split 7" single with Hollywood Sinners.

After a period of relative inactivity, the band returned in April 2012 with a new single 'Fire Burning'. Ken spent an amount of time as the drummer with The Mighty Stef. In April 2015, the band released the 'Passing Us By' single to coincide with Record Store Day.
