Irish newcomers Turn are picking up justifiably
deserved acclaim at the moment and this six-track
mini-album is a taster of things to come.
Kicking off with the furious Pixie-sque "Beretta",
Ollie Cole's vocals gushing with sincerity.
"Facedown" is a gorgeously slow,
dark and moody epic, Cole sounding fragile
and stretching to the upper echelons of his
vocal abilities. "Truth" is another
heart-string-tugger capturing delicate fretwork
and a soothing bass. "Beeswax"
ups the ante with its searing guitars and
distorted vocals whilst "Never Needed
You" is classic with its rousing ending.
As debuts go this is up there, although it
would have been better to hang on while longer
and have gone for a full album release. I'm
sure Turn have plenty more surprises up their
collective sleeves. We watch with anticipation.
