CHURCHTOWN, CO. DUBLIN 1979 - 1984
OVERVIEW
The Sussed was a Dublin-based punk-pop band which was active on the scene between 1979 and 1984. The group was fronted by Rory Stokes from Churchtown. He was joined by Paul Mooney [Guitar], Declan Jones [Bass Guitar] and John McGrath [Drums]. Jones would later leave to concentrate on Blue In Heaven. He was replaced on bass guitar by John Downey. Liam Fox would later take on bass-playing duties.

The band played regularly on the Dublin scene. Some of these gigs were as support to an up and coming band called U2. The band announced its arrival on the scene in 1981 with the release of 'Don't Swim On The East Coast / I Wanna Conform' single. The first track was inspired by the Sellafield [Windscale] Nuclear Power Plant which was polluting the Irish Sea. The record was well received and ascended to Number 3 in the Irish charts.

However, this was to be the band's only release. By 1984, The Sussed was no more. The lineup may have played as Once Bitten for a short period before finally splitting. Stokes, Mooney and McGrath moved to London and joined up with Blathin Clancy and Ronan Stokes [Rory's brother] as part of Cuba Dares. Rory emerged once more a couple of years later fronting Rory Stokes & The Spiders From Kimmage.
