OVERVIEW Star Turtle began June 2003 in Matt Walker's (Lead singer) back room. Daragh Hoey (Guitarist) and Matt had played a couple of acoustic gigs together but now wanted to expand. Practice began September 2003 with drummer Gary Nixon and bassist Barry Hyland. They played their first gig December 28th in the small, dungeon like-venue, Isaac Butts. 2004 was spent practicing and lightly gigging with a few jaunts to the studio experimenting with new songs. Nothing other than experience was taken from 2004. If asked, Star Turtle began in earnest in the summer of 2005 with the recording of their first EP and the acquiring of their new bassist, Jonathan Walker, younger brother of lead singer. This new line-up played their first gig in October, and then went on to launch their EP in the Crawdaddy November 2005. S.tl gigged regularly over the next 7 months before returning to the studio to record their second EP "Nightmares&VideoGames" under the production of Q, the guitarist of the reknowned band Lir. Whilst mixing their EP, they played the Hard Working Class Heroes, where Hotpress lauded their live performance. They went on to headline Whelan's in October, Bewley's theatre in November, and Radio City in December. Finally in April 2007, Star Turtle launched their second EP "Nightmares & Video Games" in Crawdaddy: a fast, punchy single of which Hotpress wrote had "dollops of energy." It was on the back of their second EP that Star Turtle decided to take control of their own destiny and record an independent album. They booked a studio for July and then started an intense period of preproduction; this culminated in a headline show in Whelan's at the end June to showcase the upcoming album "Grin&Bear." 2003 - Band formed 2005 - Release of 'Star Turtle' E.P.
