CORK 1986 - 1988 & 1992 - 1996
OVERVIEW
Soon was an alternative rock band from Cork. Details on the band are rather scarce. However, let's focus on what is known. The group came together in about 1986/7 with a line up of Tony O'Sullivan [Vocals], Giordai O'Laoghaire [Guitar], Martin Vallely [Bass Guitar] and Con O'Donovan [Drums]. Con was later replaced by Arty Lorrigan on drums. Giordai was well known on the Cork scene having played with Nun Attax, Constant Reminders and Micro-Disney. Martin had performed with the short-lived Boat People while Con had drummed for Belson / The Belsonic Sound.
During this early period of the band's life, the band recorded a couple of demos, however, there were no official releases. There are equally reports that the quartet recorded a Fanning Session during 1987 featuring the tracks 'Hibernia Way' and 'Sondela'.

In around 1988, the Cork-based version of Soon had run its course. However, this was not to be end end for the band. It looks like Tony relocated to Dublin and he had soon recruited a new band still under Soon name. These new recruits were Martin Dunlea [Guitar], Simon McVeigh [Bass Guitar] and Willie Walsh [Drums]. The new incarnation of the recorded some further material, at least to demo stage. These tracks include the likes of the intensely dark 'Straitjacket Jesus' in 1993. In that year, the band also contributed the track 'Dream On Mister' to the 'HMV Unplugged ::: The Acoustic Sessions' compilation. It's also noted that Soon performed at the 'Cork Rocks Festival' the following year.
