"Something Happens in ISLE OF NOISES" | Isle Of Noises |

Of all the new groups up and running for
the sun the one most likely to get
close
are Dublin's Something Happens!, whose
debut
October '88 album "Been There,
Seen
That, Done That" (Virgin) was
the complete
item. Bursting with intricately woven
songs,
originality, love, beauty, and freshness,
it won unanimous praise on both sides
of
the Irish sea. This was emotional Irish
rock
with dozens of unexpected twists and
turns
and some gorgeous melodies as on "Beach"
and "Forget Georgia." It
matched
the insistence of punk/new wave with
a broader
perspective as evinced on the acoustic
tracks
"Both Men Crying" and "Be
My Love." A lovable bunch led
by singer
Tom Dunne, their sense of humor and
slightly
neo-hippy image attracted much attention.
A sign of their zealous commitment
was after
Virgin America stalled on releasing
their
debut, they self-financed a summer
'89 tour
of the American East Coast plus some
dates
in Los Angeles and Hollywood. The reaction
was such that the worthy record entered
at
number 2 in the U.S. import charts. © 1987/1990 Mark J. Prendergast For information, contact St. Martin's Press, 175 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY, 10010 |
