| DUBLIN | 2001 |
| OVERVIEW Settler is a five piece band based in Dublin, Ireland. Formed in early 2001 by Fiona O'Connor (bass), Tim O'Donovan (drums), Derek McCormack (acoustic guitar and vocals), Wil McDermott (keyboards) and Michael Stevens (electric guitar and vocals), its lyrical, acoustic-edged pop aesthetic has cheerfully bludgeoned its way into the cerebral Dublin music scene, finding support from all those who appreciate guitar-driven, intelligent pop. A self-titled EP was released on the Mango Music label late in 2001, followed by a couple of appearances on RTE's No Disco in 2002 and more recording. A two-week trip to Chicago was soon organised. It was here the band completed the recording of its debut album, Life Upstream, with Barry Phipps of The Coctails. All this along with radio interviews, TV appearances on the cult pop show, Chic-a-go-go, and a series of gigs, fuelled the band for the remainder of 2002, when it played some memorable gigs in some of Dublin's illustrious venues. 2001 - Settler formed - Release of 'Settler' E.P. 2003 - Release of 'Life Upstream' album [January] 2004 - Release of 'Hard Won, Hard Wired' album |
