OVERVIEW The Saturdays is an English-Irish girl group which was formed in 2007. The line up includes Una Healy from Thurles. Una had pursued an individual solo career for a number of years. During this time she won the Glinsk Song Contest in both 2004 and 2006. 2006 also saw Healy release her debut single 'Sorry' and she also played the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin. Healy went on to play with the band Over Nine Waves. However, in 2007, she took the opportunity to join The Saturdays. She is joined by Mollie King, Frankie Stanford, Rochelle Wiseman and Vanessa White. The band's debut single, 'If This Is Love' was released in July 2008. The single performed very well and made it into the UK Top 10, peaking at Number 8. A second single, 'Up' also entered the Top 10. The debut album followed soon after and has since gone platinum. The band continued to release a series of successful singles throughout 2009. These included 'Issues', 'Just Can't Get Enough' and 'Work'. 'Just Can't Get Enough' was a cover version of the Depeche Mode classic and was released in support of Comic Relief. In addition to promoting and touring the debut release, the band was actively working on the follow up record. The first fruits of this were seen in October 2009 with the release of a single entitled 'Forever Is Over'. The single reached number 2 in the UK singles chart. The sophamore record, entitled 'Wordshaker' followed on 12th of October. Once again, the album was well received. 2010 started off in strong fashion with another single release, 'Ego', and another Top 10 chart placing. 2008 - Release of 'If This Is Love' single [28 July] - Release of 'Up' single [13 October] - Release of 'Chasing Lights' album [27 October] 2009 - Release of 'Issues' single [05 January] - Release of 'Just Can't Get Enough' single [02 March] - Release of 'Work single [29 June] - Release of 'Forever Is Over' single [04 October] - Release of 'Wordshaker' album [12 October] 2010 - Release of 'Ego' single [03 January] - Release of 'Missing You' single [06 August] - Release of 'Higher' single [31 October] |
