DUBLIN | 2012 - 2013 |
OVERVIEW Hilary Woods is a singer-songwriter from Dublin. She grew up in a musical household where her brother Geoff was a member of bands such as Picturehouse and Pugwash. While still at school, she joined fledgling band JJ72 as their bass guitarist, an instrument she had only recently learned. The band became indie darlings with the release of their self-titled debut album. That record went on to sell over half a million copies. In March 2003, Hilary left the group. It was a full ten years before Hilary returned to the music scene. This time around, she traded as The River Cry. In February 2013, she released an album of the same name on Betrothed Records. The recorded was recorded the previous Wnter on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork. The album is a tender, beguiling affair. Often sparse yet always beautiful. There are certainly glimpses of Mazzy Star and Julee Cruise. Standout tracks include 'Raise The Red Lantern' and 'To The Sea'. This was to be the only release from Hilary as The River Cry. The following year she started performing under her own name, releasing a new EP in September 2014. 199x - Release of 'The River Cry' album [14 February] |
