OVERVIEW The Mighty Stef was the brainchild of Stefan Murphy, the erstwhile member of Mirrorball and The Subtonics. It started out as a side project when he was performing with The Subtonics in 2004. He need an outlet for a lot of personal, acoustic material which he had written. And thus The Mighty Stef Was born. Over time, The Mighty Stef became a band with various contributors including Gary Lonergan [Bass Guitar & Keyboards], Brian Gallagher [Drums & Vocals], Daniel Fitzpatrick [Guitar & Keyboards] and Brian Farrell [Drums]. Collectively these musicians boast an impressive CV having played with the likes of Humanzi, Porn Trauma, VetoState and The Last Tycoons. The Mighty Stef released 4 albums during its existence - 'The Sins Of Sainte Catherine' [2006], '100 Midnights' [2009], 'The Mighty Stef And The Baptists' [2010] and 'Year Of The Horse' [2004]. The band's final album may very have been its best work. The band also released a string of singles and EP. However, it was in a live context that the band was most at home. It was fitting then in 2016 when The Might Stef announced it was to split, that that band announced it was to split that it wound up its affairs with two final gigs - one in Belfast and one in Dublin. 2005 - The Mighty Stef represents Ireland at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas - Release of 'Prayer For The Broken Hearted' single [May] 2006 - Release of 'The Sins Of Sainte Catherine' album [22 September] - The Mighty Stef performs as part of the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin [13 - 15 October] 2008 - Release of 'Death Threats' E.P. [23 May] 2009 - Release of '100 Midnights' album [06 February] - Release of 'Sing To Me' single [December] 2010 -Release of 'Downtown / Summer Serenade' single - Release of 'The Mighty Stef And The Baptists' album [26 November] 2012 - Release of 'Bad Bad Men' EP as a split 7" release with Cheap Freaks [21 April] 2013 - Release of 'Iveagh Flats' EP [06 November] 2014 - Release of 'Year Of The Horse' album [26 September] 2016 - The Mighty Stef announces that it is to come to an end. The band plays two final shows 12th May at the Empire Music Hall in Belfast and The Button Factory in Dublin the following night |
