DUBLIN | 1997 - 2004 |
OVERVIEW Melaton were a five piece band from Dublin. The band came into being after Purple Haze (a Hendrix, Radiohead and Smashing Punpkins cover band) featuring Jonathon Black, Andrew Brennan, Declan Garvey and Anthony Mooney asked Luke Slott to join. This resulted in the five starting to write and record their own material. In 2001, the band launced their own website and offered the 'Moonstorm' E.P. for free to anyone logging on the site. They had originally planned to distribute 2000 CDs in this manner. However, due to their growing popularity, over 7000 requests were received. The band quickly began to attract record company interest and were signed by Sony. In 2002, the band released the 'Falling Star' E.P. and this was followed shortly by the 'Still Water' E.P. The band were really building momentum and spent the month of October touring the UK with JJ72. The band spent 2003 continuing to tour and write and record towards the release of their debut album. However, in February 2004, the band were dropped by Sony and Luke and Anthony departed. Nothing further was heard from Melaton. 1997 - Band formed 2001 - Release of 'Moonstorm' E.P.
