MAYNOOTH, CO. KILDARE | SIERRA LEONE | 2014 - |
OVERVIEW Loah is the stage name of Sallay Matu Garnett, a unique and talented, writer, musician and vocalist. Her mixed background (Sallay is of Irish and Sierra Leonean heritage) is a huge part of who she is as an individual as well as a performer. She has been surrounded by music from an early age - either through her classical training on the violin or her choral singing. Throughout her studies in Trinity College (Sallay is a chemist) she interacted with some of Ireland's up and coming musical talent. Hozier's 2014 self-titled debut album features the track 'Something New' which was co-written by Sallay. Sallay's own sound also reflects her heritage. Described by some as African Soul, Sallay considers it to be ArtSoul. In 2014/2015, Loah started to step into the spotlight as an artist in her own right. In January 2015, she performed at Stete.ie's 'Faces Of 2015' launch gig in the Mercantile in Dublin. Several other notable performances followed. In February 2016, Loah collaborated with Bantum on his single 'Take It'. Later that year, she performed at the annual Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin. However, it was 2017 which really marked her arrival. In March, she released the single 'The Bailey' - a taster from her upcoming EP. That month also saw her represent Ireland at the annual SXSW Festival in Austin Texas. Her aforementioned debut EP 'This Heart' followed in April. Loah had a busy Summer with appearances on the Other Voices stage at the Electric Picnic and another appearance at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival. 2016 - Loah performs at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin [ 2017 - Release of 'The Bailey' single [March] - Load represents Ireland at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas [16 - 17 March] - Release of 'This Heart' EP [28 April] - Load performs on Other Voices stage at the Electric Picnic [01 - 03 September] - Loah performs at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin [29 - 30 September] |
