DUN LAOGHAIRE, CO. DUBLIN | 2007 - |
OVERVIEW The Last Tycoons was an Americana and blues influenced rock 'n' roll band from Dublin. The group evolved the earlier group, Porn Trauma. After that group came to an end, the members regrouped as The Last Tycoons. The aforementioned tycoons included Stephen Fanning [Vocals & Guitar], Daniel Fitzpatrick [Guitar & Vocals], Matt Roddy [Bass Guitar & Vocals], Michiel Hogerzeil [Drums] and Aoife Ruth [Organ, Piano, Violin & Vocals]. As Porn Trauma, the band had tasted some chart success as their single reached #21 on the Irish charts. The Last Tycoons debut release was the 'Loving Arms' single, released in 2007. Next up was 'The Dry Law' which followed 2 years later. That record was released on The Mighty Stef's The Firstborn Is Dead label. The following year saw the band release its eponymously-titled debut album. In 2012, the band released an EP of material from their formative years when they were known as Porn Trauma. The imaginatively-titled 'The Porn Trauma Years' EP contain 5 tracks including 'Sunrise', 'Casanova Blues' and 'Loving Arms'. The band seemed to go quiet after this. It's not sure if there was a formal split or if the members simply worked on personal projects. What is sure is that Dan joined The Mighty Stef. Other members may have also supported the 'Mighty' one also. Aoife continues to work with her other projects including The Dying Embers, The Annulments and The Chapters. Last reports placed Stephen in Berlin where he was performing as A.S. Fanning. 2007 - Porn Trauma decide on a name change and The Last Tycoons are born - Release of 'Loving Arms' single 2009 - Release of 'The Dry Law' single [12 June] 2010 - Release of 'The Last Tycoons' album 2012 - Release of 'The Porn Trauma Years' EP [09 March] |
