BELFAST 1978 - 1982
OVERVIEW
Katmandu was a new wave band, originally from Belfast. The band came together in about 1978, although a number of members of the original line up had previously played together as Zenith from 1974. Katmandu was fronted by Martyn Lundy [Vocals]. While his brother, Tommy [Guitar] and Ronan O'Callaghan [Keyboards] both played in an early incarnation of the band, the more recognised lineup saw Trevor Hutchinson [Bass Guitar], Iggy Ward [Guitar], Pat Fitzpatrick [Keyboards] and Peter McKinney [Drums] join Martyn Lundy.

The band relocated from Belfast to Dublin in a bid to make a breakthrough and by 1980, they were a top draw on the live scene in the city. That year was also significant as it saw Katmandu release what was to be its only single, 'I Can Make The Future' on Spider Records. The record was well received, and a contract with a major record label beckoned. However, nothing materialised from this. The group started to split at this stage and relocated back to Belfast.

Both Trevor Hutchinson and Peter McKinney were later in The Waterboys with McKinney subsequently performing with The 4 Of Us. Various versions of Katmandu continue to perform live.
