DUBLIN | 2005 - 2010 |
OVERVIEW Humanzi was a Dublin-based rock band which was active during the second part of the 2000s and the very early part of the following decade, They went on to support the likes of Foo Fighters, The Strokes and The Pixies. The group emerged from the ashes of an earlier group, Listo. Shaun Mulrooney [Vocals, Guitar & Keyboards], Gary Lonergan [Bass Guitar] and Brian Gallagher [Drums & Vocals] had all been part of the earlier outfit. Colm was enlisted on guitar and Humanzi was born. The band very quickly exploded on to the local scene. Their debut single, 'Fix The Cracks' was released in November of the year. The following year, the band found themselves in Dingle performing as part of the fourth series of Other Voices ::: Songs From A Room - quite an achievement for a fledgling band. A couple of months later, Humanzi was named 'Best New Act' at the 2006 Meteor Music Awards beating off competition from The Immediate and Delorentos. The band went on to release a couple of more singles 'Long Time Coming' and 'Diet Pills & Magazines' - in the build up to their debut album. That record, 'Tremors' was produced by Chris Vrenna [Nine Inch Nails] and was released in July. While well received by many, the album wasn't as commercially successful as expected. The band reclocated to Berlin in about 2008 and wwhile there, they started to work on their second album. The first release from the record was 'Bass Balls', released in June 2009. The second long-player 'Kingdom Of Ghosts' followed just over 6 months later in Febriary 2010. The band returned to Ireland and played a headline gig at The Workman's Club on 02 October of theat year. At that concert Shaun proclaims “We don’t know if this is the last song we’ll ever play together or not”. The gig effectively marked the end of Humanzi. Brian and Gary went on to become part of The Mighty Stef. Brian later performed with SOnance HOtel and Exploding Eyes.
