| OVERVIEW Halves is a (largely) instrumental band based in Dublin. The group was formed in 2006 by Dave Scanlon (ex-Skylight and Superstar Nomads) got together with former Skylight band members Brian Cash and Tim Czerniak to discuss a new musical project. Before long, Tim's brother Elis had also joined the project. The band released its self-titled debut EP in May 2007. The 3-tracker included 'Take Exact Revenge', 'Burial On A Windfarm' and 'Tony Hart's Revenge Theme'. In spite of the band being in its infancy, Halves was chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurosonic Festival which took place in January 2008. In May they released a mini-album entitled 'Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy'. The CD contained 7 tracks including 'Medals' which has become one of the band's best known titles. Later that year, Halves made an appearance at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin. For their next single, the band got together with Subplots for a split 7" release. Havles contributed 'Blood Branches' while the Subplots track was entitled 'Leech'. After what felt like an eternity, the band finally released its debut album 'It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever)' in October 2010. However, it was well worth the wait. The record was an epic piece of work and garnerd a nomination for the Choice Music Prize. In 2012, the band released a Live album, recorded at the Unitarian Church in the centre of Dublin. The following year brought with it the band's second long player, 'Boa Howl'. The record saw no reduction in quality compared to its predecessor. The band returned to the scene in 2014 with another split 7" release. This time they shared the vinyl with Twinkranes who included 'Double Negative'. For their part, Halves contributed 'Dacalogue'. The single was given away free to the first 150 people through the door at Whelan's for the Seven Quarters Vinyl Club night. In February 2019, the band surprisingly released an album of out takes, remixes, sessions and unreleased tracks. The record, 'Old Haunts' served as a timely reminder of the quality of the band. Unfortunately, in interviews at the time of the album's release the band confirmed that they were on an indefinite hiatus. 2006 - Band formed 2007 - Release of 'Halves' E.P.
