OVERVIEW God Talking Soul was a rock band from Northern Ireland. The group was originally formed in 2000 in Strabane, Co. Tyrone. The lineup at that time featured Nick McCallan [Vocals & Guitar], his brother Tim McCallan [Lead Guitar] alog with their cousin Richie Montague [Bass Guitar] and Gerry Strawbridge [Drums]. The band was highly thought of and went on to win 'Hot Press Unsigned Band Of The Year' award in 2002 and the 'Budweiser N.I. Unsigned Band Of The Year' award a year later. The band gigged regularly throughout this early period and went on to release three EPs as well as well as an album recorded live at the Temple Bar Music Centre in Dublin. The exact details of these recordings are unknown. In 2004, front man Nick decided to disband God Talking Soul. Shortly after this he relocated to Belfast where he decided to rekindle the group. He brought in new personnel in the form of James Heaney [Bass Guitar] and Alan Lynn [Drums] along with his brother, Tim. James had been performing with Derry-based acoustic outfit, Lumina while Alan was part of the well known Belfast group Lafaro. In 2005, the band performed at the 'Belfest 2005' Festival and contributed the track 'Look At Us' to the compilation of the same name. The band recorded a further EP, 'It's Only Funny Because You Said It' in 2006. However, in early 2007, Nick decided to end the group for a second time. His intention was for God Talking Soul to be a solo project with no other permanent members. More recently, however, he has been trading as Nicky McCallan. Gerry, who had played drums in the first lineup of the group, went on to join Donegal rockers The Plea. 2000 - Band formed 2002 - God Talking Soul win the 'Hot Press Unsigned Band Of The Year' award 2003 - God Talking Soul win the 'Budweiser N.I.
