OVERVIEW The Gloaming are Irish taditional music supergroup. The band was formed in 2011 by some of the leading lights of the Irish traditional scene. Those players are Iarla Ó'Lionáird [Vocals], Martin Hayes [Fiddle], Dennis Cahill [Guitar], Thomas Bartlett [Piano] and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh [Hardanger d'Amore]. Tha band's impact on the trad scence has been instant, innovative and meteoric. The band's first concert in the National Concert Hall in August 2011 sold out on anticipation alone - the band had not released any material at this time. The band finished recording its debut album in the Summer of 2013. The record was, subsequently, released in January 2014 on Peter Gabriel's Real World Records label. The record received univesrally positive reviews. The album was nominated alongside U2's 'Songs Of Innocence' and Sinead O'Connor's 'Im Not Bossy, I'm The Boss'. The Gloaming walked away with top honours. The final track from the album, 'Samhradh Samhradh' was named Best Traditional Track at the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. In December 2015, the band recorded the follow up album in just 5 days. The record was released in February 2016 and went straight to #1 in the Irish Charts. The band continued to play to sold out venues including a further residency at what was bceoming the band's spiritual home at The National Concert Hall. In 2018, the nad released a live album, 'Live At The NCH' to co-incide with band's latest latest 7-night residency at that venue. The band spend the rest of 2018 writing and recording what would become the third studio album.
