MAGHERAFELT, CO. DERRY 2007 -
OVERVIEW
General Fiasco is an indie rock band from Magherafelt, Co. Derry. The group was formed in 2007 by brothers Owen and Enda Strathern, the former providing vocals and bass with the latter being the guitarist and backing vocalist. The pair was joined in that original line up by Shane Davey on drums. However, Davey soon left and was replaced by Stephen Leacock.

The band's name came from combining two suggested titles, 'General Music' and 'Marley Jedrejak Fiasco', both of which were rejected. However, the group settled on the combination of General Fiasco.

The band played a extensively over these early years with appearances at Oxegen, Reading and Leeds festivals. The band released their debut single 'Rebel Get By' in November 2008. The track received strong airplay on both Irish and UK radio.

The band spent 2009 preparing for the release of their debut album. The year also saw the release of two further singles, 'Something Sometime' and 'We Are The Foolish'.

In March 2010, the band released their fourth single, 'Ever So Shy' which served as an appetiser to the debut album which followed on 22nd March. The band embarked on an extensive tour in support of the record. May 2010, saw the release of a further single, 'I'm Not Made Of Eyes'.
