Since the early '90s, the Frank and Walters have been writing evocative, melodramatic guitar rock with an emphasis on pathos. But while the band is adept at making emotional connections, it often falls short of creating truly engaging ditties. Overall, The Grand Parade is an encompassing and grandiose CD, but it lacks the kind of hooks and choruses that make songs memorable.
