DUBLIN 2006 -
OVERVIEW
Fight Like Apes is a Dublin-based alternative rock band. The band was formed in 2006 by Mary Kate Gallagher [Maykay], Jamie Fox [Pockets], Tom Ryan and Adrian Mullan. Mary Kate, Jamie and Tom had previously performed together as part of Soft Cuddly Toys. The band took their name from the movie 'Battle For The Planet Of The Apes' where Caesar cries "Now fight like apes".

The band opened its EP account with the release of 'How Am I Supposed To Kill You When You Have All The Guns?'' on FIFA Records in May 2007. The EP was exceptionally well received and soon sold out. The 4-track collection featured the now-famous 'Jake Summers', 'Lend Me Your Face' and 'Battlestations' as well as the lesser known 'You Are The Hat'. The band became known for the excessively lengthy titles of their releases. This was proven by their second EP, 'David Carradine Is A Bounty Hunter Who's Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch' which hit the streets in November of the same year.

These first two EPs firmly established Fight Like Apes as one of the most exciting bands on the Irish scene. The band's reputation was growing and this was further shown with the quartet being nominated in the 'Best Irish' band and 'Best Irish Live Performance' categories at the 2008 Meteor Awards. In March of that year, the band represented Ireland at the annual SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. The band's next release came in the form of 'Something Global'. By this time FLA had signed with Model Citizen Records. 'Something Global' served as an appetiser to the debut long player 'Fight Like Apes And The Mystery Of The Golden Medallion' which was released in September. The album would go on to receive a nomination for the Choice Music Award.

Throughout 2009, the band went on to reissue an amount of their material as different editions as they tried to crack the UK and US markets. At the end of 2009, the band issued the 'Live At Eurosonic' album as a free download.

In April 2010, it was announced that Adrian Mullan had left the band due to creative differences. However, this did not stall the momentum of the band as they worked on their second studi album. The first fruits of these sessions came in the form of 'Hoo Ha henry' which was released as a digital download single on 20th August. A week later, the second long player 'The Body Of Christ And Legs Of Tina Turner' hit the shelves.
