ATHENRY, CO. GALWAY 2006 -
OVERVIEW
The Deans is a 3-piece blues-influenced band from Athenry, Co. Galway. The current lineup is comprised of Gavin Dean [Vocals, Guitar & Harmonica], Gary Dean [Bass Guitar & Vocals] and Gary Keon [Drums & Vocals]. The band came into existence in 2006, however, the Dean brothers had performed as part of a nummber of earlier outfits including Paradox and Hush. The original line up of The Deans featured Martin Sheanon on drums. He was replaced later that year by current drummer, Gary Keon.

The band rapidly built up a live following. This was achieved through extensive touring an appearances at festivals such as the Ballyshannon International Rory Gallagher Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and the Guitare-en-Scene Festival in Geneva. Such is the impact of the performance at the latter that the group is invited back to perform on the main stage the following year.

In February 2007, the band is named as the 'Best New Rock Act' in 'The Irish World' newspaper. While continuing to perform live, the band next set about recording its debut album. Gavin had been writing and had a collection of songs ready to be recorded. In early 2008, the band headed into the studio to record the record. The album, which was also entitled 'The Album' was released in May of that year. The band continue to play live and return to play a number of the festivals which they played the previous year as well as some new ones.

In May 2009, the band participate in the festivities for the World Volvo Ocean Race Festival in Galway. Shortly afterwards they return to the studio. This time, the ouput is released in the form of the 'Distraction' EP.

Whe band continued with its active performance scheduled through the remainer of 2009 and in to 2010. In November 2010, the band returned with a new single entitled 'Worried All The Time'.
