OVERVIEW Joe Chester is a Dublin-based singer-songwriter of some reknown. He cut his teeth with bands such as The Sound Of Bells, Sunbear and Ten Speed Racer. When the latter split in about 2004, Joe decided to embark on a solo career. At the end of 2004, Joe performed as part of the third series of Other Voices ::: Songs From A Room which was recorded in St. James Church in Dingle. His performance was broadcast on RTE Television in the spring of 2005. That year also saw Joe release his excellent debut album, 'A Murder Or Crows'. That collection featured some beautiful tracks including 'Bleed To Love Her' and the wonderful 'Charlie For A Girl'. In early 2006, 'A Murder Of Crows' was nominated for the inaugural Choice Music Prize. The award went to Julie Feeney for her '13 Songs' album. Joe returned with a new record in 2008 entitled 'The Tiny Pieces Left Behind'. The album once again highlighted Chester's ability as a songwriter. In 2010, Joe took the unusual step of releasing an album of Radio recordings. The collection was entitled 'Contre La Montre - Unreleased Radio Recordings 2005 - 2010' and was made available as a free download. The album featured Joe's take on tracks by Bruce Springsteen ['State Trooper'], Prince ['Take Me With U'], The Beach Boys [Wouldn't It Be Nice'] and Johnny Cash ['My Treasure']. Throughout this period Joe continued to perform with other artists including Gemma Hayes, The Waterboys and The Ruby Tailights. However, in spite o his busy schedule, he managed to find time to write and record a new album. He released 'Napoleon Bonaparte' as a single in August 2011 which served as a taster for the album. 'She Darks Me' followed at the start of October of the same year. 2004 - Joe Chester performs as part of the third series of Other Voices, Songs From A Room which was recorded in St. James Church in Dingle.
