DUBLIN | 1982 - 1987 |
OVERVIEW Cuba Dares was a Dublin-born, London-based band which was active during the early to mid 1980s. The group was originally formed by Blathin Clancy [Vocals] and Ronan Stokes [Guitar]. The pair used a drum machine to round out the group's sound. The line up was later augmented through the recruitment of Dennis Rusk [Guitar], Tony Kennedy [Bass Guitar] and Barry O'Reilly [Drums]. In about 1984, Cuba Dares relocated to London. This led to a break up of the band as it was with Cuba Dares back to a two piece of Clancy and Stokes. Some time later, Paul Mooney of The Sussed joined the band. He was followed by Rory Stokes [Guitar & Keyboards] and John McGrath [Drums]. However, Mooney did not remain with the group and was replaced by Chris McKenna on Bass Guitar. The band released its only EP 'One - Nine - Eight - Six' in 1986. The EP featured 3 tracks - 'Yellow And Red', 'Sweet Ephemeral' and 'Lost Without A Trace'. The collection was warmly received and was named single of the week in NME Magazine. The band split shortly after this. Rory Stokes also fronted Rory Stokes & The Spiders From Kimmage who released the 'Time Is On Our Side' EP in 1985. 1982 - Band formed 1986 - Release of 'One - Nine - Eight - Six' EP 1987 - Band split |
