OVERVIEW Chayka is a 6-piece band from Kildare. The band's name derives from Russian. It literally translates as Seagull. Many of the band members have been playing together for a number if years in different bands. The current incarnation came in to being in 2007, when Orlaith Gilcreest [Clarinet, Saxophone & Backing Vocals] joined the grouping. The rest of the line up was made up of Stephen Byrne [Vocals], Sean De Burca [Guitar], Ken Richmond [Bass Guitar & Vocals], Ricardo Panza [Guitar & Vocals] and Jay Oglesby [Drums]. The band released a debut EP, 'Looking For An Enemy' in 2008. The EP was re-issued in 2009. Since then the line up has changed with Stephen departing and his younger brother, Johnny taking over vocal duties.
