DUBLIN 2005/6 -
OVERVIEW
The Chakras is an alternative rock band from Dublin. The band came together around 2005, however, the members had been friends since their school days. At the core of the group are brothers Ross [Vocals] and Gordon [Guitar] Whittaker. Completing the line up are Richie McArdle [Guitar], Bryan Pepper [Keyboards & Synths] and Ian Kane [Bass Guitar]. Over the years, the band has used a number of different drummers including Ronan Regan, Osgar Dukes, Stuart Lawson and Ross Turner.

In spite of only recently being recognised as a reording band, the group has been releasing material since its very early career. The band opened its account in 2005 with the release of the 'Manipura' EP. The 5-track release contained a version of 'Raincloud'. This ended up being the lead track on the band's next EP released in 2006. The band's third single, 'Dark Days' was also released that year. The following year saw the release of the band's seminal 'Build Me A Swan' EP. As well as the excellent lead track, the EP also includes 6 other tracks including 'Unborn Love', 'Life Is Still Growing' and 'My Friend Yugoslavia'.

This EP was also the start of the band's work towards a debut album. In 2008, The Chakras released a new single entitled 'We The People'. Over the following few years, the band completed the reording of the album. In early 2011, the band signed with Planet Function Records. In April, 'We The People' was re-released. A new single 'Drifting (Take A Walk Inside)' followed in July. This served as a taster for the band's long-awaited debut album, 'Build Me A Swan'. The record was finally released in September 2011.
