Galway natives Cane 141 returned to the City Of The Tribes for a much anticipated gig down on Dominick Street. Vocalist Michael Smith began the night's events with a very accomplished DJ set that included an eclectic mix of soul and blues tracks with groups like the Waterboys thrown in for good measure.

The lads began with 'Real Spaceman' - a track with spiraling sounds that manoeuvered their way around the room and left me the audience motionless. The gathering looked as though a magic spell had been cast over them by the sorcerors on stage. The candlelit venue added to the ambience.

When the went through 'In The Sky' the acoustic moods had taken over and the boys looked like they were in another place. It seemed as though the music was being channedled through them. The vocalist exclaimed after the track that it was the "first time I haven't screwed up on that song!" and drew a smile from the audience from his apologetic nature.

'The Party' proved to be a more up-beat number with the Canes demonstrating that they can rock it up with the best of them. The group later ran through 'Eager Boy', 'Georgia', 'Porno' and finished with 'Down Angel'.

So, what's the Cane 141 experience like? Well, it's kinda like the music's answer to valium - calm and chilled sounds with futuristic and country edges.
