OVERVIEW Briana Corrigan is a singer-songwriter who is, perhaps, best known for the six years she spent performing with The Beautiful South. Corrigan was born in Belfast and raised in Portstewart. When she was eighteen, she moved to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to study acting. It was there that she joined The Anthill Runaways. She was asked by Go! Discs Records to try out working with Paul Heaton of The Beautiful South. She subsequently joined the group and sang lead vocals on a number of the band's hit singles including 'A Little Time'. In 1994, she left the group due to musical differences and launched her solo career. In 1996, she released her debut solo album entitled 'When My Arms Wrap You Round'. The album spawned the single 'Love Me Now'. A second single, 'Fool' was scheduled for release but this was cancelled by the record company. Towards the end of the 1990s, she started to work with Dave Couse [ex-A-House] as part of his experimental project Lokomotiv. That band released the single 'Next Time Round' in 2000. There was a long break before Briana returned to the scene. In 2009, Briana performed at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin. In 2012, Briana released her second album, 'Redbird'. The record included a number of tracks written or co-written with Dave Couse. One of these, '13 Wonderful Love Songs' featured on A-House's 1990 album 'I Want To Much'. 1994 - Briana launches her solo career 1996 - Release of 'Love Me Now' single - Release of 'When My Arms Wrap You Round' album [August] 2009 - Briana performs at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin [16/17/18 October] 2012 - Release of 'Redbird' album [09 March] |
