OVERVIEW The Bulbs was a Cork band which was certainly active during the mid 1990s - a period during which they released an album and a handful of singles. The band lineup featured Owen O'Brien [Vocals, Backing Vocals & Guitars], Aine O'Keeffe [Backing Vocals], Niall O'Keeffe [Backing Vocals], Martin Daley [Bass Guitar, Keyboards & Backing Vocals], Timmy The Sax [Saxophone] and Colin McCarthy [Drums]. Colin had previously drummed with The Belsonic Sound. It's not clear if The Bulbs was an offshoot of Paul And The Bulbs, another Cork band from the late 1970s which was also fronted by an Owen O'Brien. At any rate, the 1990s band released a single called 'Myrtleville' in 1995. This released was followed swiftly by the release of the band's debut album 'Saints And Demons'. One of the songs from the record, 'African Day' was also included on the 'Music From Ireland - Volume 5' compilation. A new single, 'Girls On My Belly'. followed in 1996. There is little known about the band after this period. Aine and Niall later formed Temple Door and then Sonic Icons. Interestingly, the pair's daughters Sophie and Laura followed in their parents' musical footsteps in forming a band - the band being called Kudos. 1995 - Releasse of 'Myrtleville' single - Release of 'Saints & Demons' album - The Bulbs track, 'African Day' appears on the 'Music From Ireland - Volume 5' compilation 1996 - Release of 'Girls On My Belly' single |
