Free All Angels

"Free All Angels" is a stunning return to grace from Irish rockers Ash after their somewhat lackadaisical last release "Nuclear Sounds". "Free All Angels" launches into action from the offset and leaves no doubts to what the band are now about. Back to true Ash roots of pulsating drums, reverberating guitars and loud sounds backed by Wheelers distinctive voice.

The albums opening songs "Shining Light" and "Burn Baby Burn" are the first releases from their third studio album. Going through the tracks it's easy to see five to seven singles being released. The adoption of Bacharachs "Make It Easy On Yourself" for their fourth song "Candy" provides a captivating backing whilst maintaining the integrity of the classic original.

Whilst lacking the grit and grime that made "1977" so special "Free All Angels" does possess its own level of coarseness. Songs such as "Shark" and "Submission" are edgy and dynamic whilst juxtaposed with serenades such as "Someday" and "Sometimes". With clean and crisp production by "Owen Morris" "Free All Angels" is yet another land mark for a group who have achieved success without compromising themselves en route. Tour de force.
