If critical plaudits could be translated
into units shifted over counters, then A
House would be casually contemplating redecoration
of the West Wing of their newly acquired
country retreat. As it is, the third LP from
this defiantly and undeservedly unsuccessful
group is likely to be about as eagerly awaited
as the third round draw for the Zenith Data
Systems Trophy. Which is a palpable shame,
as I Am The Greatest is a throbbingly vibrant
selection of melancholy ballads and caustic
wild-edged rockers dripping with rage and
frustration. Produced by Celtic soul brother
Edwyn Collins, the LP boasts two exceptional
songs-the rolling confrontational Irish rap
of the title track, and Endless Art's invocatory
tribute to such diverse departed talents
as Claude Monet, Elvis Presley and Gerard
Manley Hopkins. |
