DUBLIN | 1996 - 1996 |
OVERVIEW Better known as one of the most recognisable rhythm sections in rock music, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are respectively the bass guitarist and drummer for U2. In 1996, the pair took some time out from the day job to record a version of the theme tune for the Mission Impossible movie featuring Tom Cruise. The original track was, of course, by Argentine-born composer, Lalo Schifrin. The rework changed the time from the 5/4 to a more modern and danceable 4/4. The song was released as a single charted well and went Top 10 in the US as well as a number of other geographies. The track also featured on the Original Soundtrack of the movie as well as multiple compilations. It was later nominated for a Grammy Award for 'Best Pop Instrumental Performance. After a brief brush with the spotlight, the pair returned to U2 as the band was continuing to work on their 'Pop' album. To date, this has been the only release from the pair. 1996 - Release of 'Theme From Mission: Impossible' single |
