OVERVIEW 79Cortinaz is a rock band which was formed in 2003. The original line up featured Cormac Strain [Bass Guitar], Gala Hutton [Vocals] and Darren O'Neill [Drums]. Collectively this trio had played with bands such as Azure Days, Bungalow and Crocodile Tears. Dave Dorgan also played with the band for a period but was later replaced by Thom McDermott on guitar & Keyboards. The band made its recorded debut release in 2004 with the 'Deirdre's Song' single. A new single, 'Electric Hym' followed a year later. The band had a strong live reputation. The group played regularly and, in 2006, 79Cortinaz performed at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin. The band headed into the studio to record a debut album. The result of these sessions was 'Hopioki' which was produced by Rat Scabies and released in 2007. The record featured the two singles as well as 9 other tracks. In October of 2008, they played the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival again.
